Today we wish our lead singer safe travels as he makes his way over to Europe for the entire month of August. The rest of us are going to use this as an opportunity to begin work on the plethora of songs that we have all written. We will be starting to demo out each track and, through the process, we will decide how and when to release as many of the 50 some odd songs that we can. We’re letting the music be our guide through this one and it’s definitely telling us that these new tracks cannot be left on the back burner any longer.
We have spoken to some of you about the differences between our live set now and our album My Bright Heart, but we’d like to shed some more light on this. MBH was a great landmark for us; we strove for an overall pop production and we all believe we achieved that in spades! We’re VERY proud of this record and we still expect another single or two to come from it. We are also aware that we have developed a lot since those days (some songs off of MBH, in some form, date back to 2008!), individually and collectively, and that is why you see so many unreleased tracks in our set-list - we just can’t wait! As musicians we are always evolving and aiming to take serious strides forward. Expect nothing less from our new music. Just as we wanted to capture an unabashedly pop approach to our songwriting on My Bright Heart, we now seek to produce a record that encapsulates ourselves and our goals in this stage of our lives.
We will be dropping a brand new, unreleased single AND music video late August/Early September. This track was written before, during and after tour and, as you might guess, represents a lot of our time spent on the road. We’re stoked to share it with you!
As of right now we have a couple of local spots lined up for Fall. We will be seen playing O Week at the U of W on September 4th as well as a couple of shows prior to our WCMA nomination for Video of the Year. Stay tuned for more on this - BOW and the WCMAs run from October 3rd to the 5th.
Thanks to everyone who came out and made our tour kick off such a great time with great friends! Your support and energy was amazing. Definitely felt ‘The Bette Midler and The Rose’ vibe tonight - a term coined by the late and great Kurt Cobain. “Energy comes out of us and it goes into the audience and they bounce it back and we just play catch with some vibes” – KC. The opening bands really brought the noise and seeing them all have successes in their sets was wonderful.
We just want to spread the word that we have received good news about the health of the young lady who was injured at the end of the night. It shook us up to have someone hurt at our show - we put these shows on to have fun and bring people together in an environment that is welcoming, inclusive and, most importantly, a place to feel safe and at home. When someone’s safety is compromised, it shakes everyone up. We really value the concern and support shown by those at the show.
Last night we were joined by two musicians during the first half of our set last night. Paul Little (who runs one of our favourite all ages venue, The Purple Room at FRAME) played acoustic with us and Courtney Wyspianski added some beautiful backing vocals. Sharing the stage with a couple of great musicians, who are also great friends of ours, was fantastic.
We can’t wait to share the rest of our tour experiences with you all!
The last time The Kin were in Winnipeg they were opening for Pink at the MTS Centre! We couldn’t be happier to announce that we will be opening for their show at The Pyramid THIS SATURDAY! Doors at 8pm.
